Narendra Modi’s 75th birthday today, the
nation pauses to honor a leader whose
journey from a chaiwala i n Gujarat to the
helm of India’s destiny has inspired
millions. But here i n the lush valleys and
riverine expanses of Assam, the
celebrations carry a deeper resonance—a
story of personal connection, tireless
visits, and a cascade of developmental
strides that have reshaped the state since
he assumed office i n 2014. Modi’s bond
with Assam isn’t just political; it’s
profoundly human, marked by speeches
laced with local flavor and a commitment
that’s turned the Northeast from a
footnote to a forefront in India’s growth
narrative.
No other prime minister has embraced
Assam with such frequency and fervor.
Since 1947, the entire Northeast saw only
21 prime ministerial visits up t o 2014;
Modi, i n contrast, has made 78 trips t o
the region by now, with Assam alone
hosting him over 40 times. That’s a stark
leap from his predecessor Manmohan
Singh’s fewer than 1 0 visits in a decade.

days ago on September 14, underscored

district last Sunday, Modi inaugurated and
