More than 70 organizations along with Akhil Gogoi led Krishak Mukti Sangram Samitee are supposed to hold a mass protest against the 2016 citizenship amendment bill on Friday in Janata Bhawan, Guwahati.
Ahead of the protest, to prevent any sort of foul play, section 144 has been imposed in the city since 14th November.
“Hereby prohibit assembly of more than five persons, agitation, demonstration, procession and shouting of slogans in the entire West district of Guwahati covering areas under Bharalumukh, Fatashil Ambari, Gorchuk, Jalukbari and Azara Police Station without prior permission from the competent authority. The order shall remain in force from November 14 to until further orders,” read the prohibitory order passed under the command of Deputy Commissioner of police Harekrishna Nath.
However, expecting worse consequences, the organisation Krishak Mukti Sangram Samitee has been denied permission to be part of Friday’s protest by the authorities.
The president of KMSS Akhil Gogoi, while opposing the denial by the authorities regarding their involvement in Friday’s protest said that they would anyway carry on their protest. He even threatened to call a bandh if the state administration didnot allow them to hold the scheduled protest.
