Music Legend from Assam Dr Bhupen Hazarika Conferred With Bharat Ratna

Noted singer-musician-Poet-Film maker Dr Bhupen Hazarika conferred(posthumously) with India’s highest civilian award #BharatRatna by President Ram Nath Kovind, at an investiture ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan today.

His son, Tej Hazarika received the award on behalf of his father from President Ramnath Kovind at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Thursday.

Representing the Assam Government-Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Minister of Agriculture, Horticulture and Food Processing Atul Bora and the state’s BJP MLAs attended the event. Manisha Hazarika, Dawor Hazarika, Tej Hazarika & Snigdha Bhatia have also attended the award ceremony.

The announcement was made through an official Rashtrapati Bhavan statement in January 2019.
Dr Bhupen Hazarika is the second Assamese to receive the highest civilian honour after Assam’s first chief minister Gopinath Bordoloi.

Along with Bhupen Hazarika and Nanaji Deshmukh who have been awarded the Bharat Ratna posthumously, former president Pranab Mukherjee was also awarded the Bharat Ratna.
