Nalbari: Newly built athletics facility in Assam to host Indian Athletics Series
NEW DELHI, May 14: The newly constructed stadium at Sariahtali in Assam’s Nalbari district has been selected to host the seventh leg of the Indian Athletics Series on June 6, offering athletes from the state and nearby regions an opportunity to participate in a national-level competition.
The one-day event will include 18 senior-category disciplines—nine each for men and women—along with 10 events in the junior U20 category, with five events each for male and female athletes.
In a circular, the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) stated that as the inaugural meet at the venue, the competition will help encourage and promote athletics among athletes from Assam’s interior areas.
The meet will be conducted by the Assam Athletics Association under the aegis of the AFI.
The venue features a newly laid 9-lane track and is part of the Nalbari District Sports Stadium Complex, which was inaugurated in February by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The complex also includes Assam’s first Athletics Academy for elite training, along with a football ground.
Assam has previously hosted major national athletics competitions, including the National Inter-State Championships at the Indira Gandhi Stadium in Guwahati.
