Nipon Goswami’s Last Film “Swahid Pronamo Tomak” Will Release in Cinemas soon
Guwahati, September 16: In alignment with the upcoming 20th September, the Martyr Kanklata Barua Memorial Day, the Assamese film “Swahid Pronamo Tomak” will be released on 19th September under the banner of AM Television. The film pays tribute to India’s freedom struggle and the first Assamese female martyr, Kanklata Barua.
Addressing a press conference conducted by Journalist Hemanta Sarma held on Tuesday at the Guwahati Press Club, producer Loknath Deka stated that AM Television has produced a significant number of Assamese films. In addition to commercial cinema, they have always strived to highlight various aspects of Assamese heritage to attract viewers. Through “Swahid Pronamo Tomak”, the film attempts to portray the patriotism and sacrifice of 17-year-old Kanklata Barua, one of Assam’s earliest female martyrs in the Indian independence movement.
The film emphasizes that not all problems can be resolved by radical revolutionary ideology or violent uprising, and that true peace cannot be established through violence. Notably, the film’s director, national award winner and scriptwriter Chandra Mudai, shared the story’s premise: A young Assamese revolutionary girl dreams of liberating Assam from British rule. Along with her peers, she embarks on an extremist path, but her illusion shatters when she encounters the immortal bravery of Kanklata Barua. Inspired by Kanklata’s selfless sacrifice for the freedom of India, the young girl awakens to the real meaning of freedom, the greatness of sacrifice, and her national identity.
At the press conference, music directors Dr. Hitesh Barua and Ajay Phukan, actors Urmila Mahanta and Debashish Barthakur, Kanklata Barua’s nephew Abhijit Barua, and Jadav Chaliha of the Kanklata Barua Memorial Protection Committee delivered keynote speeches.
