No Land Will Be Taken Without Consent in Proposed Thermal Power Project: Pramod Boro
Kokrajhar, June 16, 2025:
In a significant development amidst ongoing public protests, BTR Chief Executive Member (CEM) Shri Pramod Boro has assured that no private or indigenous land will be acquired for the proposed thermal power project in Bashbari, Parbatjhora subdivision. Speaking to media and stakeholders at the BTC Secretariat, Boro clarified that only government land will be utilized, and under no circumstance will villages or community land be disturbed.
The proposed project—a joint venture between Adani Power Limited and Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL)—is expected to bring in investment worth ₹18,000 to ₹20,000 crore and generate employment for 8,000 to 10,000 local youths. However, it has triggered significant resistance from local residents and activist groups who fear large-scale land acquisition and ecological damage.
In response, CEM Boro emphasized the government’s commitment to “development without displacement.” He also appealed to local Village Protection Committees and other community representatives to come forward for an open dialogue, assuring complete transparency in the land-use process.
“This is not a project that will be imposed. People’s consent is paramount. We are committed to development, but not at the cost of our people,” he said.
The BTC administration also confirmed that necessary environmental impact assessments (EIA) will be conducted by certified agencies before any groundwork begins.
