Noted Litterateur Purabi Bormudoi No More

Renowned litterateur Purabi Bormudoi breathed her last this morning at GMCH after suffering for a long time. Assam has incurred an irreplaceable loss with the writer’s passing away.

The last rites will be performed at the Navagraha Crematorium today.

Assamese novelist and short story writer Bormudoi was born in Tezpur’s Deori Village on May 08, 1950, to father Chandranath Tamuli and mother Padma Tamuli. She married educationist-critic Ananda Bormudoi in 1975.

The novelist, has also been awarded with the prestigious Sahitya Akademi in 2007 for her novel Santanukulanandan. Some of her other achievements are:

  • 2006- Prabina Saikia Award
  • 2012- Assam Valley Literary Award
