PM Modi Closely Monitoring Assam Floods, Says Nadda During Ground Assessment
Sivasagar, August 5: Union Health and Family Welfare Minister and BJP National President J.P. Nadda on Wednesday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi is closely monitoring the flood situation in Assam and has assured full support from the Centre for relief, rehabilitation and rebuilding efforts.
Nadda made the remarks while visiting the flood-ravaged Nepalikhuti area along the Assam-Nagaland border in Sivasagar district, one of the worst-affected regions in the recent wave of floods. Accompanied by Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Union Minister interacted with affected families and reviewed the extent of damage caused by the disaster.
Speaking to the media, Nadda said the scale of destruction was immense and restoring normalcy would take time. He assured flood-hit residents that the Government of India would leave no stone unturned in providing financial assistance, compensation, rehabilitation support and aid for damaged properties.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi is personally monitoring the situation in Assam. On behalf of the Prime Minister, I assure the people that there will be no shortage of support from the Centre,” Nadda said during the visit.
The visit is part of Nadda’s three-day tour of the Northeast to assess flood and landslide damage in Assam, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh. In Assam, he inspected flood-affected villages, damaged infrastructure, submerged agricultural fields and relief camps while reviewing ongoing rescue and rehabilitation measures.
According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), more than 1.22 lakh people remain affected across five districts, with Sivasagar being the worst-hit. Hundreds of villages remain inundated and large stretches of cropland, roads, embankments and public infrastructure have suffered extensive damage.
Prime Minister Modi has been regularly reviewing the flood situation and recently held discussions with Assam MPs and state authorities, reaffirming the Centre’s commitment to assisting flood-affected communities across the state.
