SBI donates mobile dental care unit

GUWAHATI,June 9: In a significant boost to rural healthcare in Meghalaya, the State Bank of India (SBI) has donated a state-of-the-art Mobile Dental Care Unit to Karuna Trust, a renowned public health NGO. The official handover ceremony was held at SBI’s Main Branch in Shillong on Sunday.
The mobile unit is fully equipped with modern dental tools and facilities, and is designed to deliver essential oral healthcare services—including dental check-ups, minor procedures, awareness campaigns, and preventive care to underserved communities across remote regions of the state.

Karuna Trust, which currently manages 11 Primary Health Centres (PHCs) in Meghalaya, will operate the mobile unit as part of its ongoing community outreach efforts. The NGO has a long-standing presence in the Northeastern region and is known for its focus on healthcare delivery in hard-to-reach rural areas.

Satya Ranjan Goswami, Director of North East Operations at Karuna Trust, expressed his appreciation for SBI’s support. “This mobile dental unit will enable us to address one of the most neglected areas in public health oral hygiene. With SBI’s generous contribution, we will be able to extend our services to thousands of individuals who otherwise have little or no access to dental care,” he said.

Speaking at the event, Prabhas Bose, Chief General Manager of SBI Guwahati Circle, said, “As part of our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, we are proud to support efforts aimed at improving rural healthcare infrastructure. We believe that partnerships like this can create a meaningful and lasting impact in communities that need it the most.”

The collaboration between SBI and Karuna Trust stands as a powerful example of how public-private partnerships can effectively address critical gaps in healthcare access and delivery, especially in rural and remote areas.
