All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) supremo, Maulana Badruddin Ajmal on Wednesday stepped forward to construct Bharat Ratna Bhupen Hazarika’s house in Kuthori located in central Assam’s Nagaon district.
Ajmal, who is also a perfume baron took to Twitter and announced that he has directed his team to visit the house which was very close to Hazarika’s heart and make necessary arrangement for its repair.
“Saw the news about the dilapidated condition of Bharat Ratna Late Dr Bhupen Hazarika’s home at Kuthori. I have directed my team to visit the place at the earliest & make necessary arrangements for its repair. It would give me immense pleasure to contribute in its preservation,” Ajmal tweeted.
Ajmal further slammed the Assam Government, which in September 2016, took a cabinet decision of converting the house at Kuthori into a Heritage Building.
Ajmal said, “It’s very unfortunate that the Govt didn’t take any measure to preserve the heritage house even after such cabinet decision.”
The announcement comes a day after the state celebrated the 94th birth anniversary of the cultural maestro, often called as the ‘Bard of Brahmaputra’.
