In compliance with the latest SOP released by the Assam Government, the Kamkhya Devalaya administration has informed that the Devalaya would be closed from May 13 for 15 days. Along with the Kamakhya Devalaya, several other temples located in the premises would remain closed.

Earlier in the day, the Assam Government released a new SOP, which has directed all the religious places to remain closed for 15 days. It further mentioned that the religious head of a religious place or his representative may perform minimal religious rituals or prayers.

The Kamakhya temple is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas, important shrines in the Hindu tradition. The temple was also closed last year due to the Covid-19 situation.

The new SOP further mentions that all the shops and commercial establishments will shut down at 1 pm on all days. A total of ten persons would be allowed in weddings and funerals.
