Kamakhya Temple Ropeway Nears Completion, Promises Easier Access for Pilgrims

The ropeway project connecting Kamakhya Railway Station to the iconic Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati is in its final phase, according to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Executed by National Highways Logistics Management Limited (NHLML), the ropeway is expected to ease travel for thousands of pilgrims who visit the sacred Nilachal Hill shrine, one of India’s most revered Shakti Peeths.

“This ropeway will offer significant relief to devotees by improving access to the temple,” said the Chief Minister. He also confirmed that a second ropeway from Sonaram Field to the temple is in the pipeline, with tenders already issued and groundwork in progress following initial delays.

Additionally, the government is exploring ropeway infrastructure at Biswanath and Bhuban Tirtha, as part of a larger initiative to enhance pilgrimage and tourism connectivity across the Northeast.
