Young entrepreneur Sumi Kalita opens “Sumi’s Cake & Bakery” in Chhaygaon

PALASBARI, Oct 24: Marking a new step in her entrepreneurial journey, Sumi Kalita, a young and hardworking woman from Chhaygaon, has inaugurated her new venture “Sumi’s Cake & Bakery” at Champaknagar, located beside National Highway 17 in Chhaygaon near Chandika temple. The bakery was formally inaugurated today by Hemanga Thakuria, MLA of Palasbari LAC in the presence of several distinguished guests, local residents, and well-wishers.

A former student of Chhaygaon College, Sumi Kalita has earned recognition in recent years as a dedicated and self-reliant woman entrepreneur. Through unwavering determination, tireless effort, and a passion for baking, she has turned her dream into reality by establishing her own modern bakery outlet to serve the people of the region with freshly baked cakes, pastries, and confectioneries.

Speaking on the occasion, MLA Hemanga Thakuria praised Sumi for setting a strong example of women empowerment and youth entrepreneurship in rural Assam. “Sumi’s success story reflects how determination and dedication can turn small ideas into successful ventures. Such initiatives not only strengthen local economies but also inspire others, especially women, to step forward with confidence,” the MLA remarked.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by several social workers, local business owners, and youths of the area who lauded Sumi’s entrepreneurial spirit. They expressed hope that Sumi’s Cake & Bakery would become a favorite destination for bakery lovers in and around Chhaygaon, while also creating local employment opportunities.

In a brief interaction, Sumi Kalita shared her gratitude and future plans.
“This has been a dream project that took years of hard work and patience. I am thankful to everyone who supported me — my family, friends, and the people of Chhaygaon. My goal is to serve quality bakery products and gradually expand our services across the region,” she said.
