Guwahati, July 29: Samiul Haque (21), who was critically injured in a hit-and-run case allegedly involving Assamese actress Nandini Kashyap on July 25 night, succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday evening while undergoing treatment.

Samiul, who had joined the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) as a temporary employee just hours before the accident, was hit by Nandini’s car while installing streetlights in Dakshingaon area, sustaining severe head and body injuries.

He was first admitted to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) and later shifted to Apollo Hospital, Guwahati, where he passed away on Tuesday evening.

Eyewitnesses and family members allege that the actress initially fled the scene and took shelter in an apartment in Kahilipara instead of helping the victim. A viral video on social media shows the actress in a heated argument with locals shortly after the incident.

Nandini Kashyap later claimed that she did not realise the severity of the situation at first. She also visited GMCH to meet the victim’s family and reportedly offered financial assistance for his treatment.

Police confirmed that the car involved has been seized and that an investigation is underway. On Monday, Dispur Police had summoned Nandini for questioning in connection with the case.
