A special court in Guwahati on Tuesday sent Dhubri Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) of border branch, Jatin Chandra Das, who was arrested for his alleged nexus with smugglers to 5-day police custody. Rafikul Parmanik, who was arrested along with Das was also sent to police remand for 5 days.
A case under 120(B)/409 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and sections 7, 12 of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 has been registered against the duo.
Assam Police arrested DSP Jatin Das for his alleged nexus with cattle smugglers, coal and drug rackets. The cop was arrested after Dhubri police launched a massive operation against illegal cattle smuggling on Sunday night.
The police officer allegedly took money from the smugglers and cartels to allow them to continue with their illegal trade. As per police sources, Das has been allegedly minting huge sums of money by means of being involved in the entire nexus.
Das and Parmanik will be produced in the court on June 5. Their mobile phones have also been seized for further investigation.
