GUWAHATI, 23 October: The VIP road at Chandan Nagar in the Sixmile area here, which culminates at Narengi, is in an extremely dilapidated condition as it has remained unrepaired for over months.

Earlier, the road was full of huge potholes. So, recently, the potholes were covered by the authorities. It has been filled with sand and gravel, making the road more dangerous.

It is especially hazardous for rickshaws, cycles, two-wheelers, and even four-wheelers as the gravels and sand have come out from the holes, spreading the temporary fillings in the entire road making it very slippery and hard to brake.

According to a local resident, Kumud Das, repeated complaints to the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) have failed to elicit any action. Even the higher authorities have been apprised of the problem, the local resident said.

Several accidents have occurred on the road of late, Das said, adding that a young biker had an accident due to the road condition recently and sustained injuries.

Several local residents echoed this view and pointed out that the road is an important link road within the city and needs to be repaired as soon as possible.
