In a significant operation, the Assam Police successfully disrupted a nascent militant group in the forests of Kokrajhar-Chirang, preventing a potential threat to regional stability. The operation, led by the Kokrajhar Police, culminated in the surrender of 20 young individuals who had been clandestinely organizing the group for several months, as revealed by DGP GP Singh on Monday.
Taking to the micro-blogging platform X, the Director General of Police shared the success of the operation, stating, “Another success for @assampolice. In the Kokrajhar-Chirang forests, we’ve been able to intercept and bring out a group of 20 youths who had been trying to form a new militant group since last three/four months.”
The swift action by the police, who have been closely monitoring the situation, led to the group’s decision to renounce their militant ambitions. During interrogation, the individuals voluntarily handed over their firearms, a move that DGP Singh highlighted as a positive outcome of the operation.
The surrendered weapons include six automatic rifles, four single-shot rifles, three pistols with magazines, five No. 36 HE grenades, 54 rounds of AK rifle ammunition, and nine rounds of pistol ammunition.
DGP Singh praised the Kokrajhar Police for their dedicated efforts in dismantling this emerging threat, reiterating the Assam Police’s unwavering commitment to maintaining peace and security across the state. The operation serves as a reminder of the ongoing vigilance required to keep the region free from violence and unrest.
