AZARA, Jan 11: The 7th biennial convention of the Assam Press Correspondents Union (APCU), Kamrup Metro district committee, was held today at the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) of Assam Agricultural University in Azara.
The event commenced with a flag hoisting ceremony led by the committee’s President, Ratan Kalita, followed by a tribute session, Smriti Tarpan, initiated by Niren Ch. Mali, Abhijit Kalita, Dhrubajyoti Kalita, and Dhananjay Barman.
Dr. Dhirendra Nath Kalita, Director of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, attended as the Chief Guest. In his address, he emphasized the importance of ensuring social security for journalists, highlighting their crucial role in society.
During the meeting, the old committee was dissolved, and a new 15-member committee was constituted for a two-year term. The key office bearers of the newly elected body include:
- President: Ratan Kalita
- Chief Advisor: Mousamjyoti Baishya
- Secretary: Abhijit Kalita
- Working President: Dhrubajyoti Kalita
- Vice Presidents: Dhananjay Kumar Barman and Bhabani Baruah
- Assistant Secretaries: Riyaz Ali and Sabita Sarma
- Organising Secretary: Pradip Das
The convention was graced by APCU Kamrup district secretary Niren Ch. Mali, AASU central committee member Alakesh Nath, and other dignitaries. The gathering marked a significant step forward for the union in addressing the challenges and priorities of the journalistic community.
