35-Year-Old Woman Found Dead at Silchar Home; Husband Held After Family Alleges Murder

GUWAHATI, July 14: Tension gripped Rangirkhari’s Das Colony in Cachar district on Tuesday after a 35-year-old woman was found dead inside her house.

Police have taken her husband into custody as they investigate the circumstances surrounding her death.

The woman was identified as Champa Das. Her family said they became worried when repeated calls to her went unanswered around 11:00 AM. Her elder son, Bhubesh Das, then went to check on her and found his mother lying lifeless on the bed.

The family immediately informed the police. Officers reached the spot, recovered the body, and sent it to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

According to the family, Champa was allegedly strangled by her husband, Mrityunjay Das (40), who reportedly fled after the incident. Police launched a search operation and arrested him later in the day.

Police said they are awaiting the post-mortem report and forensic findings before deciding the next legal steps. The investigation is ongoing.
