AASU invites PM for debate on CAA, Assam Accord

GUWAHATI, Feb 20 – The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) has invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a debate on the Assam Accord and the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019. The invitation of the student body came after the Prime Minister’s recent assertion that there would be no rethinking on the CAA.

Reacting to the Prime Minister’s recent statement on the issue, the AASU chief adviser Samujjal Bhattacharya lamented that the Central government failed to show any respect to non-violent movements. He said that on one hand the Prime Minister had commented that he respected non-violent movements in Assam, but on the other, he is adamant on imposing the CAA against the wishes of the people of the Northeast.
