AIIMS Guwahati Begins Regular Cardiac Surgery Services
Guwahati: AIIMS Guwahati has commenced regular cardiac surgery services after successfully performing and completing its first two open-heart surgeries.
The procedures were carried out on September 8 on a seven-year-old child and a 47-year-old woman, both from Assam, who had congenital heart defects.
The surgeries were performed using a cardiopulmonary bypass machine, which temporarily supports the functions of the heart and lungs during the procedure.
Both patients recovered well following surgery and were subsequently discharged from the hospital in stable condition.
The commencement of cardiac surgery services marks an expansion of specialised cardiac care at AIIMS Guwahati, providing patients from Assam and other parts of the Northeast access to advanced cardiac surgical treatment within the region.
