Assam: Bhupen Borah Credits BJP’s Rise to Himanta Biswa Sarma, Slams Congress Leadership Crisis
Guwahati: Former Assam Congress president Bhupen Kumar Borah has credited the rapid rise of the BJP in the state to the leadership of Himanta Biswa Sarma, while sharply criticising the internal condition of the Congress.
Speaking on the current political scenario, Borah acknowledged that the BJP’s growth in Assam has been largely driven by Sarma’s strategic leadership and strong organisational control. He suggested that the ruling party’s consistent electoral success reflects its ability to connect with voters and maintain a clear political direction.
At the same time, Borah took aim at the Congress, pointing to a deep leadership crisis within the party. He said the lack of unity, direction, and strong decision-making has significantly weakened the party’s position in Assam.
The remarks come at a time when Congress continues to struggle electorally in the state, while the BJP has consolidated its dominance under Sarma’s leadership, securing repeated victories in recent elections. (The Times of India)
Borah also indicated that unless major structural and leadership changes are made, the Congress may find it difficult to regain its lost ground in Assam’s evolving political landscape.
