Assam Clinches Bronze at 6th Federation Cup Roll Ball Championship
KAITHAL: Assam’s roll ball team secured the bronze medal after a thrilling 3–2 victory over Maharashtra in the third-place playoff of the 6th Federation Cup Roll Ball Championship, held at Kaithal from January 2 to 4.
The playoff encounter turned into a high-voltage contest filled with twists and momentum shifts. Assam took an early lead to go 1–0 ahead, but Maharashtra equalised in stoppage time, pushing the match into extra time. Both teams then exchanged goals, ending the extended period at 2–2. The deadlock was finally broken when Assam struck a decisive golden goal, sealing the win and triggering jubilant celebrations among players and supporters.
In the men’s final, Tamil Nadu emerged champions after defeating Uttar Pradesh 3–2, with Uttar Pradesh settling for the silver medal. The women’s category saw Rajasthan clinch the title, followed by Madhya Pradesh in second place and Jharkhand securing the bronze.
Assam’s podium finish reflects the state’s growing strength in roll ball, a fast-paced sport combining elements of football and basketball, and highlights the steady progress being made through focused training and the promotion of young talent at the competitive level.
