In Assam, political parties are busy wooing voters in seven assembly constituencies of the Dibrugarh district. The polls for these assembly constituencies will be held in the first phase on the coming 27th. Both BJP and Congress have fielded their candidates in these assembly constituencies.
Dibrugarh is the native place of the present Chief Minister of Assam Sarbananda Sonowal and the Union Minister of State for Food Processing Rameshwar Teli. Therefore, the district is a stronghold of the BJP party and out of these seven assembly constituencies, BJP won six seats in the last general election.
This time, BJP fielded six candidates excluding the Chabua assembly constituency where the party alliance AGP fielded a candidate. The Congress party also fielded its candidates in all seven assembly constituencies. The leader of the newly formed Assam Jatiya Parishad- Lurildhati Gogoi is fighting from the Duliajan assembly constituency against the incumbent BJP MLA and Congress candidate.
