Assam Fans Remember Zubeen Garg at FIFA World Cup

GUWAHATI, July 8: Two football fans from Assam, Mushibur Rahman (Puranigudam) and Ratul Ahmed (Panjabari, Guwahati), paid tribute to Zubeen Garg during a FIFA World Cup match.

They wore white T-shirts with Zubeen Garg’s photo and had Assamese gamosas around their necks. In a crowd full of football jerseys, their look stood out.

The incident took place during the Portugal vs Spain match at Dallas Stadium.

Inside the stadium, Mushibur even sang a few lines of “Mayabini.” Many people around them noticed and started recording videos.

Before the match, Mushibur spoke about Zubeen Garg’s love for football and his dream of seeing India, especially players from Assam and the Northeast, play in the FIFA World Cup one day.

“India may not be playing in the World Cup today, but Zubeen Da always believed that one day it would,” Mushibur said.

This is not the first time the two friends have done this. Earlier too, they went to a FIFA World Cup wearing the same clothes and shouted “Joi Zubeen Daa” from the stands.

Their small tribute showcased Assamese culture on a big world stage and reminded everyone of Zubeen Garg’s dream.
