Assam Flood Death Toll Rises To 80, Over 2 Lakh People Affected
GUWAHATI: The devastating floods in Assam have claimed 80 lives so far, with two more fatalities reported in Sivasagar district, officials confirmed on Friday. The disaster continues to affect eight districts, leaving over 2.12 lakh people struggling amid the deluge.
In response to the crisis, the state government has announced a six-month moratorium on loan repayments for flood-affected individuals. Authorities have also urged the Centre to provide a comprehensive support package to aid relief and rehabilitation efforts for those impacted by what has been described as an unprecedented calamity.
The rising toll emphasizes the severity of this year’s floods, which have displaced thousands and caused widespread damage across the state. Relief measures are ongoing, but the scale of destruction has prompted urgent calls for national assistance.
