Assam Govt Unveils Major Tourism Push; Homestay Policy and New 5-Star Hotels Announced

State Aims to Become One of India’s Top 10 Tourist Destinations

GUWAHATI, July 10: The Assam Government has announced a series of initiatives to strengthen the state’s tourism sector, including the introduction of a comprehensive Homestay Policy and the establishment of 5-star hotels in key tourist destinations.

The government aims to position Assam among the top ten states in India in terms of tourist footfall by promoting sustainable tourism, improving hospitality infrastructure, and encouraging private investment.

New Homestay Policy to Boost Community-Based Tourism

As part of the initiative, the government will introduce a comprehensive Homestay Policy to promote community-based tourism, local entrepreneurship, visitor infrastructure, and hospitality services across the state.

Eligible homestays registered with the Centre will receive a 30 percent capital subsidy along with a 2 percent interest subvention. The government will also provide technological support to homestay operators and launch a tourism promotion campaign highlighting Assam’s rich cultural and ecological heritage.

5-Star Hotels Planned in Umrangso, Haflong and Manas

To strengthen high-end tourism infrastructure, the government has proposed the establishment of 5-star hotels at Umrangso, Haflong, and Manas.

Eligible hospitality projects will receive a 30 percent capital subsidy, along with SGST reimbursement and interest subvention in accordance with existing government guidelines.

The initiative is expected to attract reputed hotel chains and private investors, enhance tourism infrastructure, create employment opportunities, and further position Assam as a preferred travel destination.
