CISF signs twin MoUs with IIT Kanpur to strengthen cyber security, drone defence

GUWAHATI, Sept 17: The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has signed two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur to strengthen its capabilities in cyber security and drone and anti-drone technology for the protection of critical and strategic infrastructure.

The MoU on cyber security will enhance the capabilities of CISF personnel through specialised training in critical infrastructure protection, digital forensics, incident response, disaster recovery and emerging cyber threats. The training will be provided free of cost and is aimed at strengthening the force’s preparedness to deal with cyber incidents at critical installations.

The second MoU focuses on drone and anti-drone technology and will enhance the CISF’s operational preparedness against emerging drone threats. It provides for specialised training in UAV operations and drone forensics, besides facilitating the development of counter-Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) technologies.

The collaboration will also facilitate joint research and development, establishment of a Centre of Excellence, advanced simulation facilities and forensic capabilities. It will further promote the development of indigenous technological solutions in collaboration with IIT Kanpur.

The twin MoUs are expected to strengthen the CISF’s technological and operational preparedness in safeguarding critical infrastructure against evolving cyber and drone-related threats.
