Guwahati Airport’s New Terminal Boosts Passenger Handling Capacity

Guwahati’s Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport has received a major infrastructure upgrade with the opening of its new integrated terminal, significantly expanding the airport’s capacity and strengthening the city’s position as the aviation gateway to the Northeast.

The new terminal at LGBI Airport began commercial operations on February 22, 2026. The expansion has increased the airport’s annual passenger-handling capacity to around 13.1 million.

The facility has been developed to accommodate growing passenger traffic and provide improved infrastructure for both domestic and international operations. The expansion is expected to support Guwahati’s increasing importance as a regional aviation hub.

The airport plays a crucial role in connecting Assam and the wider Northeast with major Indian cities as well as international destinations. With passenger traffic continuing to grow, the expanded terminal is expected to provide additional capacity for future demand.

The development is also significant from an economic perspective. Better air connectivity can strengthen tourism, trade, investment and business activity while improving access to the region for travellers from across India and abroad.
