India Targets 100-Plus Medals at Asian Games 2026

India is heading into the 2026 Asian Games with an ambitious target of crossing the 100-medal mark for the second consecutive edition.

The Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games are scheduled to begin on September 19, with India aiming to match or improve on its record 107-medal haul from the 2022 Hangzhou Games. India had won 70 medals at the 2018 Asian Games before breaking the 100-medal barrier in Hangzhou.

India’s medal hopes will be spread across several disciplines, with shooting, athletics, archery, wrestling, weightlifting, badminton, squash, kabaddi and hockey among the key sports expected to contribute.

Olympic medallist Manu Bhaker, Esha Singh, Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Mirabai Chanu, PV Sindhu and Lakshya Sen are among the athletes expected to be in contention for medals.

India will also defend its men’s and women’s cricket titles at the Games. The country is targeting another strong overall performance as it prepares for one of the biggest multi-sport events in Asia.

India’s campaign comes with some setbacks, including the absence of star javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra because of injury. Despite that, expectations remain high for another record-breaking performance.
