Jagannath puri, other temples donate nearly Rs 3 crore to fight coronavirus in Odisha

Jagannath Temple Administration, Puri on Friday donated Rs 1.51 crore to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF) to help in the fight against the novel coronavirus in Odisha. In addition, 62 temples in the state have donated Rs 1.37 crore to the CMRF to date.

“As per the decision of the Managing Committee of Shree Jagannath Temple, Puri, an amount of Rs.1,51.00.000/- (One crore fifty-one lakh) is contributed towards Chief Minister’s Relief Fund for COVID-19 from Temple Administration,” a letter from the temple registration read.

The Majhi Ghariani temple in Rayagada, Gopinath Deb temple in Satyabadi and Tarini temple in Ghatagaon had donated Rs 20 lakh each while Gorakhnath temple in Jagatsinghpur had contributed Rs 10 lakh to the CMRF. Similarly, Maa Mangala temple in Kakatpur had also donated Rs 10 lakh.

Notably, on March 23, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik appealed the people and other organisations to donate generously to CMRF to provide humanitarian help to the people affected by the novel coronavirus.

As of May 15, Odisha has detected 672 confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus. Out of these, three patients succumbed to the infection, 166 have recovered while the rest are undergoing treatment at various Covid-19 facilities across the state.
