Kalpana Patowary Proposes Renaming Guwahati Railway Station After Zubeen Garg

GUWAHATI | On Zubeen Divas, marking the first death anniversary of Assam’s beloved singer and musician Zubeen Garg, popular singer Kalpana Patowary remembered the legendary artiste and made a proposal to the Assam Government to rename Guwahati Railway Station after him.

In a video shared on social media, Patowary paid tribute to Zubeen Garg and suggested that naming one of Guwahati’s major landmarks after the late artiste would help preserve his name and legacy for generations to come.

Drawing a parallel with Guwahati’s airport, she said that people arriving in the city by air hear the announcement welcoming them to Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport. The airport is officially known by that name.

Patowary then proposed a similar recognition for Zubeen Garg, suggesting that Guwahati Railway Station be renamed in his honour, so that his name would remain associated with the gateway through which thousands of people enter and leave Assam every day.

The proposal has since drawn attention on social media, with several Assam residents expressing support for the idea.

Zubeen Garg, fondly known as Zubeen Da, remains one of Assam’s most influential and cherished cultural figures. His music and contribution to Assamese culture have left a lasting impact on generations of listeners.

Patowary’s proposal has now added a new public conversation around how the state could commemorate the legacy of the legendary singer.
