IMPHAL, April 30 – A solidarity mass rally in support of the Indo-Naga peace process was taken out in Ukhrul district today, reports reaching here stated.

The rally, which was organised by Tangkhul civil society organisations, started from the Khamasom Waley locality and ended at the Sihao Khunou Kahaophung Hill, covering a distance of about 4 km. Later, a public meeting and prayer session were held on the Sihao Khunou ground.
The day’s solidarity march was reportedly organised following the apprehension that the standoff between the Assam Rifles and the NSCN (I-M) at Sihai Khunou village, about 40 km north east of Ukhrul since the last few days, could lead to an unwanted situation.

Earlier, the Assam Rifles had alleged that the NSCN (I-M) violated the ceasefire ground rules by establishing “unauthorised camps” in the forest of Sihai Khunou/Khamasom village, according to a press statement released by the PRO, Assam Rifles (South), on Sunday night.
