Meghalaya ANTF seizes heroin worth around ₹7 lakh in Shillong, two arrested

The Meghalaya Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) has seized 40.12 grams of heroin, estimated to be worth around ₹7 lakh in the illicit market, and arrested two people in Shillong’s Pynthorumkhrah area.

According to Meghalaya Police, the operation was conducted following intelligence inputs regarding the transportation of narcotics from Silchar in Assam to Shillong.

ANTF personnel were deployed at strategic locations in Pynthorumkhrah and intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number ML-05-AD-1301.

The two occupants of the vehicle were identified as Jamir Hussain Laskar, a resident of Pangram in Assam’s Cachar district, and Joy Ryntathiang of Umkdait, Nongmensong in Shillong.

During a search of the vehicle and its occupants, officers recovered four soap boxes containing a substance suspected to be heroin. The substance was subsequently confirmed as heroin, with a net weight of 40.12 grams.

The contraband was seized and both accused were arrested after completion of the required legal procedures under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.

Police are now investigating the source of the consignment, its intended destination and other persons who may be connected with the alleged transportation network.

The seizure is part of ongoing efforts by Meghalaya Police to curb the movement of narcotics into the state, particularly along routes connecting Assam and Meghalaya.
