BJP slams ‘Adipurush’ director Om Raut for “misrepresentation” of Ramayana

Actor and BJP spokesperson Malavika Avinash has slammed filmmaker Om Raut for “misrepresentation” of Ramayana and the way he has portrayed the character of Raavana in the teaser of his upcoming period epic ‘Adipurush’.

Raut made this film with the dream of bringing the story of Ramayana to the silver screen but even since the first teaser of Prabhas, Saif Ali Khan and Kriti Sanon starrer ‘Adipurush’ dropped yesterday, there has been a unanimously negative response from various quarters.

People have largely been disappointed due to the film’s poor VFX and the unrealistic look of various characters including Saif’s Raavan. Seeing Saif donning short spiked hairs, long beard and kajal eyes, several netizens have compared the actor’s look in the film with that of Alauddin Khilji rather than Raavana.

Speaking to ANI, about the same, Malavika expressed her concern with the portrayal of Raavana and said, “I am saddened by the fact that the director let alone researching the Valmiki’s Ramayana, Kamba Ramayana or Tulsidasa’s Ramayana, or the umpteen numbers of interpretations of Ramayana that are available across board as far as Thailand where they do beautiful performances of the Ramayana. The least he could have done is gone back and researched our own films; there are so many Kannada films, Telugu films, Tamil films, which show how Raavana looked.”

“He could have just looked up NT Rama Rao or Dr Rajkumar in ‘Bhookailasa’ or any of these great actors, SV Ranga Rao in ‘Sampoorna Ramayana’, to understand how Raavana looked. The Raavana in the photograph that I see floating around is a guy who looks nothing Indian, who has blue eye makeup and is wearing leather jackets. This is our history they are representing; they cannot do it in the guise of creative liberty,” she continued.
Malavika stated that “Ramayana is who we were” and added, “it represents this nation, its civilisation and its people. So no one can take it for granted, let alone a film director. I am angry and I am saddened by this misrepresentation”.
Earlier today, the BJP spokesperson had also shared a Twitter post criticising the way Raavana has been shown in ‘Adipurush’.

She wrote, “Ravana, a Shiva-Bhakta Brahmin from Lanka had mastered the 64 arts!Jaya(Vijay) who was guarding Vaikunta descended as Ravana owing to a curse! This may be a Turkish tyrant but is not Ravana! Bollywood, Stop misrepresenting our Ramayana/History!Ever heard of the legend NTRamaRao?”

Meanwhile, apart from Saif’s Raavana, the depiction of the Pushpak aircraft, which has always been represented aesthetically, has also been widely panned by netizens because in the teaser Saif is seen riding a dreadful creature which looks like some sort of a mutated bat.
Criticising the teaser, one user wrote, “#SaifAliKhan looks like an Islamic invazher than Ravan in #Adipurush?”

Another one added, “THIS IS HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY DISAPPOINTING. A 500cr Cartoon movie and that disgusting Ravana Look! #Prabhas could have carried that #Bahubali look rather than this animated Joke!”

‘Adipurush’ has been produced by T Series and Retrophiles. It is slated to hit the theatres on January 12, 2023, in IMAX and 3D. Produced by Bhushan Kumar, Om, Prasad Sutar, and Rajesh Nair, the film will be released in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada. (ANI)

‘Wakanda Forever’ trailer introduces new Black Panther to MCU after T’Challa’s death

The first official trailer of the long-awaited Marvel film ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ has finally been released on Monday and it provides a better look at the mysterious new Black Panther.
The almost 2-minute-long trailer gives viewers a closer glimpse at a new underwater nation, which is being led by Namor, who just like in the Marvel comics, can also fly with his winged feet.

Further, there is a brief look at Dominique Thorne in the new Iron Man-style armour that suggests a major role for Ironheart in this flick. The trailer ends with a shot of the new Black Panther without revealing who is in the suit, but it could be Shuri, Nakia or even Okoye.

‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ is filmmaker Ryan Coogler’s follow-up to his 2018 film that became a cultural touchstone and earned a best picture nomination at the Oscars.
He wrote a sequel for ‘Panther’ star Chadwick Boseman, but the actor died in 2020 after privately battling colon cancer. So, the filmmaker got to work on how to move forward while honouring Boseman’s legacy.

At this year’s Comic-Con, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige revealed that ‘Wakanda Forever’ will mark the conclusion of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase Four.
The star cast of ‘Wakanda Forever’ includes Lupita Nyong’o, Letitia Wright and Winston Duke, as well as Marvel newcomer Tenoch Huerta as Namor.

The film will introduce Riri Williams, the teenage genius who becomes the hero Ironheart. ‘Wakanda Forever’ is due to hit theatres on November 11, 2022, in English, Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu. (ANI)

When mom-to-be Alia Bhatt experienced baby kicks during award acceptance speech

Ever since actor Alia Bhatt announced her pregnancy in June, she has been showering her fans with cute moments from her preggers diary.
On Sunday, the mom-to-be gave a special and cute speech while accepting the Time100 Impact Award in Singapore. At the end of the speech, Alia gave a shout-out to her unborn baby. Yes, you read it right.

“I think 10 years ago when I started working, all I thought about was how I would one day take over the world. How everyone, everywhere would know who I am and how hardworking and talented and intelligent and bright and flawless I am. I wanted to be perfect and I wanted the world to know it,” she said.
Alia also talked about her flaws. She emphasised in her speech that she might be poor in a lot of things but emotional intelligence is not one of them as she has consciously honed that trait in herself.

She stated, “Tonight, I want to take a moment with you all to celebrate my flaws along with my strengths. For example, I’m terrible at spelling. Like, really bad. But I do know what to say to someone who’s vulnerable. I have no sense of geography. Zero. I do not get directions. But I have a deep sense of respect and regard for different cultures. My general knowledge is widely known to be weak. But my emotional intelligence is something that I’ve worked really hard to cultivate. I have a tendency to be hard on myself with regards to my weight and my appearance. But I never say no to French fries because, you know, YOLO (You only live once).”

Thanking her family members for being there for her through thick and thin, she added,” Thank you to you all for patiently listening to me. Thank you to my team, for constantly being there for me. Thank you to my family; my mom (Soni Razdan) for bringing me on to this planet; my father (Mahesh Bhatt); my sister Shaheen Bhatt, who has helped put my talks into words; my husband Ranbir Kapoor. I need to give them separate awards for putting up with me on a daily basis. And lastly, when it comes to making an impact, I hope I can continue to do so in whatever way possible.”

“But for now, tonight, this award has genuinely made an impact on me–me and my little one, who has relentlessly kicked me throughout this speech. Thank you so much,” Alia concluded, receiving a round of applause from the audience.

The end part of her speech won many hearts on social media.
Reacting to it, a social media user commented, “Hahahahha, so cute.”
“One of the cutest speeches I have ever heard. Congratulations Alia,” another one tweeted.
Alia tied the knot with Ranbir Kapoor in April 2022 in a close-knit ceremony at their residence. In June, Alia announced her pregnancy on Instagram as she shared a photo from the hospital. (ANI)

Bihar man arrested in Assam, police recover fake gold

A team of East Guwahati police from Dispur district arrested a person from the downtown area of Guwahati district and charged him with carrying a piece of ‘fake’ gold on Monday.
Police said that ‘secret’ information was received and team was constituted to apprehend the accused.
The arrested person is identified as Shyam Kumar, a resident of Madhubani district in Bihar.

The police have registered a case against Shyam Kumar. Police recovered 1 hammer, 1 chisel & 1 mobile phone from his possession. “The investigation of the case is underway”, police officials said.
Assam Police on Saturday foiled a smuggling attempt and rescued 34 cattle heads from a bus in the Nagaon district on Sunday.

Only purse, mobile phones allowed inside stadium: ACA secretary ahead of Ind-SA T20I clash in Guwahati

Ahead of the opening T20I game between India and South Africa here, Assam Cricket Association (ACA) secretary Devajit Saikia said that only purse and mobile phones will be allowed for the spectators to take inside the Barsapara Stadium during the cricket match.

“Other than mobile phones and purse no other item would be allowed inside the stadium,” Saikia told the media.

When asked if spectators can take play cards of fours and sixes he stressed, “No other item will be allowed.”

Talking about the crowd Saikia said, “We are expecting a full house. Out of about 38,000 seats, 21,200 were for the general public and the tickets were sold online in two phases. The tickets were sold out in no time.”

Another 12,000 tickets were made available for the public through the district associations, and those were sold over the counters. “Usually, 40-50 per cent of tickets sent to the districts return unsold. This time, hardly 100 tickets have come back to us,” Saikia said.

The rest of the tickets are sent to state associations and some are given as complimentary passes to special guests and invitees, he added.

The capacity of the ACA Stadium in Guwahati is 39,500, but 1,500 are “killed seats” as the view of the field is not available from there.

“The fact that the ticket sale was completely transparent ensured that genuine lovers of the game will get an opportunity to watch their favourite players in action. There is unprecedented enthusiasm among them,” Saikia claimed.

He said that since the last match hosted at the venue in January 2020 was washed out, the enthusiasm among the people is even more.

Crowd management, security and traffic arrangements are foolproof with all agencies working in coordination, he said. “The match day is in the middle of Durga Puja and additional arrangements have been made for all aspects,” he added. Saikia said a high-scoring match is expected and ACA is ready with additional entertainment for the crowd, besides the one on the field by the players.

“We have a crowd entertainment system in place. DJs will be playing and fireworks will be on display. It will run throughout the match. We are expecting a good game,” he said.

We both are daughters of India: Priyanka Chopra tells Kamala Harris

Actor Priyanka Chopra, recently during a discussion with American Vice President Kamala Harris, termed both of them as ‘Daughters of India’.
In her opening remarks Priyanka said, “In my home country of India, women have held the highest elected offices. From our first-twice elected Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in 1966 to our current president Droupadi Murmu.”

“It’s so baffling to me, that in this country (US) the great land of so much opportunity, so much revolution- We have not seen that final glass ceiling shattered,” she continued.
Priyanka further drew parallels between her and Harris by adding, ” I think we’re both daughters of India in a way. You’re a proud American-born daughter of an Indian mom, I am an Indian born of two physicians, as parents and a recent immigrant to this country who totally still believes in the wholehearted you know, American dream.” Priyanka said.
Meanwhile, Vice President Harris, during her session with Priyanka Chopra at the Democratic National Committee (DMC) Women’s Leadership Forum in Washington DC, talked about various issues including reproductive rights, gun violence, pay disparity and equal opportunities.

Harris reminded top female Democrats of their duty to fight for reproductive rights and how electing two more Democratic Senators in the upcoming midterm US elections is critical to that fight.
“We have got to do everything we can in the next 39 days to remind people what is at stake in these elections,” she said during a panel moderated by the actor.

Harris emphatically told the audience that “assault weapons” were “designed to kill a lot of human beings quickly.” She said, “Just to break it down … why are we looking at a particular ‘assault weapons’ ban and carving that out? Let’s just always think about almost everything that can be for same design purpose.” (ANI)
