AssamTwo Arrested In Jorhat For Misbehaving With Sadhus From UP

Police have arrested two persons for allegedly misbehaving with a group of Sadhus at Baruah Chariali here on Thursday.
A police source stated that Joynuddin alias Babul Ali (35), a vegetable seller, originally from Juria, Nagaon district was arrested on Friday and another identified as Srimanta Das was arrested on Saturday on charges of misbehaving with a group of Sadhus who were coming in a vehicle from Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh and were on their way to Parshuram Kund, the pilgrimage site in Arunachal Pradesh.
The source said that the group of Sadhus on the vehicle were stopped at Baruah Chariali on Friday and were reportedly questioned and misbehaved by few persons suspecting them to be child-lifters.
Later police came to the spot and escorted away the group safely and undertook investigation after which two were picked up and one arrested and other was being questioned, the source said adding that police would take strong action in this regard.
On Friday the group of Sadhus were met by the Jorhat superintendent of police Mohan Lal Meena and several citizens that included representatives from different organisations at the Marwari Thakurbari here, and presented them with a Gamusa and a saffron cloth and expressed regret over the incident.
Jorhat SP said that he requested the Sadhus to continue their pilgrimage journey and assured them security and safety following which they agreed to carry on their journey from Saturday.
Meena cautioned people not to believe in rumours regarding child-lifters moving here and there and not spread such kind rumours for which any untoward incident could happen.
The SP said that on Thursday police after coming to know of a post given in a social media platform by a person of Nakachari in the district regarding a rumor about child-lifter in the district, took action and got the post deleted. He urged the people to remain vigilant and not take part in rumour mongering.
