Tennis star from Assam Raina Zaffar shines in US

Tennis Prodigy from Guwahati, Assam, Raina Zaffar shone in the United States, achieving glorious success in a tennis tournament.

In the just-concluded Lone Star Conference Tournament Semifinals held at the Arlington Tennis Center in Arlington, Texas on April 29, Raina Zaffar and her teammate Maya Donkor from Texas A&M University Kingsville defeated Cameron University’s Anastasia Uspenskaia and Magda Wawrowska.

Raina Zaffar and Maya Donkor defeated Anastasia Uspenskaia and Magda Wawrowska, the nation’s No. 10 doubles team by a score of 6-3.

Texas A&M University is one of Texas State’s top colleges and one of America’s largest universities, to play college tennis and further her education.

Raina Zaffar was selected by the University last year.

Raina began her tennis career in 2010 under the guidance of ITF coach Pinak Bh Gogoi.

In 2017, she began competing in the International Tennis Federation’s junior circuit, earning her maiden world ranking points in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Her father, Shahnawaz Zaffar, is a nationally recognised NIS Patiala tennis coach, and her mother, Nazneen Zaffar, is a talented tennis player.
