Assam Govt Increases MLA Local Area Development Fund to Rs. 2 Crore

10% of Allocation Earmarked for Immediate Community Welfare

GUWAHATI, July 10: The Assam Government has announced a significant enhancement in the MLA Local Area Development Fund (MLALAD) to strengthen grassroots development and enable legislators to address local needs more effectively.

Fund to Increase in Two Phases

As part of the government’s major announcements, the MLALAD fund will be increased to Rs. 1.5 crore per MLA in the 2026–27 financial year. The allocation will be further enhanced to Rs. 2 crore per MLA from the 2027–28 financial year onwards.

Focus on Community Welfare and Infrastructure

Under the revised allocation, 10 percent of the fund will be earmarked for addressing immediate community requirements and welfare support, allowing MLAs to respond swiftly to urgent local needs.

The remaining 90 percent of the allocation will be utilized for creating and improving local infrastructure, supporting development projects that benefit communities across the state.

The enhanced funding is expected to accelerate infrastructure development at the constituency level while ensuring timely assistance for essential community welfare initiatives.
