Assam Will Never Embrace the Violent Ideologies of Lenin, Mao and Che Guevara: Ranjib Kumar Sarmah

Guwahati, July 13, 2026: “The Indian National Congress, along with other opposition parties and a section of self-styled intellectuals, has become deeply entrenched in a calculated conspiracy to engineer an atmosphere of anarchy with the sole objective of obstructing Assam’s unprecedented developmental trajectory. Through an orchestrated campaign of misinformation, disinformation and malicious propaganda, the Congress Ecosystem is systematically attempting to sow chaos, destabilise society and undermine public confidence,” stated Ranjib Kumar Sarmah, Spokesperson of the BJP Assam Pradesh. Addressing the media at the party’s headquarters, Atal Bihari Vajpayee Bhawan, Sharma asserted that individuals associated with the Congress Ecosystem are deliberately disseminating distorted narratives and fabricated information to manufacture an atmosphere of unrest and violence, thereby seeking to paralyse the State’s development process. He, however, expressed unwavering confidence that such destructive and regressive attempts are destined to fail, recalling that the people of Assam had already delivered a decisive democratic verdict in the previous Assembly elections by politically rejecting and decisively marginalising such negative ideologies and disruptive political forces.

Sarmah further observed that the attempts by certain groups to undermine Assam’s social fabric by glorifying the ideological legacy of leaders of the erstwhile Soviet Union such as Lenin and Joseph Stalin, China’s Mao Zedong, and Cuba’s Che Guevara, are entirely unacceptable to the civilisational ethos of Assam. He claimed that historical records attribute the deaths of approximately six million people in the Soviet Union between 1920 and 1952 under Lenin and Stalin, nearly forty million people in China between 1949 and 1976 during Mao Zedong’s rule, particularly under the Cultural Revolution, and around five hundred thousand people between 1959 and 1965 under the revolutionary movement associated with Che Guevara. According to Sarmah those who seek to propagate anarchy by elevating such figures as ideological icons are, in effect, repudiating the timeless spiritual and civilisational foundations of Greater Assam established by the revered Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardeva. Quoting the saint-philosopher’s immortal teaching, “Kukur Srigal Gardabharo Atmaram, Janiya Sabako Kariba Pranam” (“Recognise the divine soul in every living being and offer respect to all”), Sharma said that Guru Sankardeva had centuries ago bequeathed to Assamese society the eternal philosophy of universal humanism, compassion and coexistence. He further maintained that it is only natural for society to question the moral credibility, social responsibility and political motivations of those who seek inspiration from historical personalities associated with bloodshed and mass killings. Addressing the media in the presence of BJP State Media Panellist Priyanka Tamuli, Sarmah concluded by asserting that Assam’s indigenous society has never endorsed, and will never endorse, violence or violent ideologies under the guise of art, intellectualism or political expression.
