Government Launches Pulse Polio Drives Across Different Districts

GUWAHATI, July 6: The Assam Government, along with the Health Department, has launched a massive campaign across several districts of Assam to vaccinate children below the age of five and strengthen the country’s polio-free status.

Vaccination drives are being conducted in the districts of Morigaon, Golaghat, Biswanath, Dima Hasao, Cachar, and Karbi Anglong.

Karbi Anglong launched the Sub-National Immunisation Day under the Intensive Pulse Polio Immunisation (IPPI) Programme.

Health officials in Cachar said that 914 Pulse Polio booths have been established across the district, with 3,426 booth workers deployed to carry out the campaign.

The drive was conducted until June 30, with health teams conducting house-to-house visits to vaccinate children who missed the booth-based immunisation.

Officials also informed that the Intensive Pulse Polio Immunisation (IPPI) Programme in Karbi Anglong will continue through house-to-house visits over the next two days to vaccinate children who miss the booth-based campaign.

In Cachar, more than 1.9 lakh children received the oral polio vaccine on the opening day.

More than 70 percent of the district’s target population, totalling around 2,78,073 children, was covered.

Health authorities across the districts appealed to parents and guardians to ensure that every child below five years of age receives the Pulse Polio vaccine, stressing that the immunisation is mandatory.

It may be mentioned that under the current Government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Health Department is working steadfastly to help sustain India’s hard-earned polio-free status and keep the country free from polio.
