Maharashtra recorded the highest surge in the last 24 hours with 63,728 positives in a single day and 398 deaths. Recently hundreds of thousands of devotees gathered for Kumbh Mela for a holy bath in the River Ganga.

This circumstance has led Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) mayor Kishori Pednekar to comment on the same saying that Pilgrims returning from the Kumbh Mela in Uttarakhand’s Haridwar will distribute coronavirus as ‘prasad’ in their states. He also said that they are considering quarantining the Pilgrims on their return to Mumbai.

“Those returning from Kumbh Mela to their respective states will distribute corona as ‘prasad’. All these people should be quarantined in their respective states at their own cost. In Mumbai also, we’re thinking of putting them under quarantine on their return,” Ms. Pednekar said.

Further, she spoke up that complete lockdown should be imposed in the state seeing the recent surge in the Covid cases.
