Two PWD Officials Arrested in Connection with Female Engineer’s Death in Bongaigaon

Bongaigaon, July 23: Police have arrested two officials of the Bongaigaon Public Works Department (PWD) in connection with the alleged suicide of a female engineer, who had accused them of mental harassment in a letter written shortly before her death.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Dinesh Sharma, Executive Engineer, and Aminul Islam, Deputy Officer of the Bongaigaon PWD.

Joshita Das, originally from Silpukhuri, Guwahati, had recently been posted to Bongaigaon and was working under the PWD (Housing) Division. Her body was discovered on Monday at her rented house in Bongaigaon.

In her final note, the young engineer reportedly accused the two arrested officials of prolonged mental harassment, which allegedly drove her to take the extreme step. Police have confirmed that both accused are in custody and that a detailed investigation is underway.

The incident has triggered public outrage, with civil society groups.
