World Physiotherapy Day Observed at DPRC, Dispur with CME on Cardiovascular Diseases and Stroke Rehabilitation

Guwahati: World Physiotherapy Day was observed at Diganta’s Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Centre (DPRC), Dispur, Guwahati, on Tuesday with a Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme that brought together physiotherapy professionals to discuss the evolving role of physiotherapy in modern healthcare.

Around 15 physiotherapy professionals participated in the CME, which focused on this year’s global theme, “The Role of Physiotherapy and Physical Activity in the Prevention, Management and Rehabilitation of Cardiovascular Disease and Stroke.”

The academic session was conducted by Dr. Pallabi Goswami(P.T), who highlighted the importance of physiotherapy and regular physical activity in reducing the burden of cardiovascular diseases and improving recovery outcomes for stroke survivors. She also spoke on evidence-based rehabilitation practices and the growing role of physiotherapists in preventive healthcare.

The programme was held in the presence of Diganta Das, CMD of DPRC, who underscored the need for continuous professional learning and collaboration among physiotherapists to enhance patient care and promote awareness about the profession.

“World Physiotherapy Day is observed every year to celebrate the profession of physiotherapy and promote continuous learning, professional development, and excellence in patient care. Each year, World Physiotherapy designates a global theme to raise awareness about a key area of health. This year’s theme, “The Role of Physiotherapy and Physical Activity in the Prevention, Management and Rehabilitation of Cardiovascular Disease and Stroke,” guided the focus of our CME session. The programme featured an in-depth discussion on stroke, covering its risk factors, preventive strategies, stages of recovery, and evidence-based rehabilitation approaches, while highlighting the crucial role physiotherapists play in improving patient outcomes and quality of life,” Dr. Pallabi Goswami (P.T), told Guwahati Times.

Observed globally on September 8 every year, World Physiotherapy Day recognises the vital contribution of physiotherapists in improving health, mobility, and quality of life through prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation.
