Opposition All Hills Party Leaders Conference (APHLC) protested against the chief minister of Assam and the chief executive member (CEM) of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) at Dongkamukam in West Karbi Anglong.

The protesters demand holding of repolling in 6 Bithung Rengthama Member of Autonomous Council (MAC) constituency in West Karbi Anglong. The APHLC said if the Assam State Election Commission (ASEC) does not agree to their demand they will go on a vigorous agitation.

The protesters burned the effigy of chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and CEM of KAAC, Tuliram Ronghang after garlanding them with sandals. Holding placards of “We want Justice”, “We want Reelection”, “ASEC Murdabad”, etc they shouted slogans of “Himanta Biswa Sarma Murdabad”, “Tuliram Ronghang Murdabad”, “Himanta Biswa Sarma Go Back”, “Tuliram Ronghang Go Back”, “BJP, RSS Go Back” and no “Re election No Rest” all the while kicking and spitting at the burning effigies to vent their anger.

An APHLC worker at the protest said, “We are protesting as no law was followed in the election in Bithung Rengthama MAC constituency. They do as they like by intimidating us. No democracy was followed and broke all the laws. We want justice. If the Assam State Election Commission does not agree to our demand, we will agitate vigorously.”

Bithung Rengthama MAC constituency is the home constituency of the CEM of KAAC, Tuliram Ronghang and his ancestral home is there in the village of Artukekang in West Karbi Anglong.

During the campaigning and on the polling day itself, there were allegations of not allowing APHLC’s supporters to vote and intimidation. Several of APHLC’s booth committee offices were either burnt or vandalised by unknown miscreants before the election was held.

The APHLC’s candidate Bikram Hanse has lodged an FIR in this regard during the campaign period at Dongkamukam Police Outpost.

It may be mentioned that there were only two contestants in Bithung Rengthama MAC constituency, viz., Tuliram Ronghang of the BJP and APHLC’s Bikram Hanse. All the others have withdrawn their nomination.
